The Boulder Beautification Project

The Boulder Beautification Project is Evan Sabourin's little baby. He really pushed the whole things forward. We trekked up an old block on day off and gave these boulders a make over. It's the most action they've seen in millions of years. We're talking about geological time here. I bet it's the most fun and attention they ever had aside from seeing tree planters pop a couple of trees by them a few years ago.

THE BOULDERS

The green one was especially cool because it was actually exactly the same colour as the background and was nearly impossible to see from the road. We made a giant boulder that has existed for millions of years disappear! It was also fun doing the least illegal ''street art'' ever. Middle of nowhere art.

Then everyone went and painted their own (smaller) boulder

THE PROCESS

I shot a short video of the whole process (until my made in China battery cut out) so stay tuned for that later.

Istanbul Kopfkino by On/Off

Kopf Kino is a mobile device that allows you to project yourself onto walls or blank facades in your city. It is a camera and projector in 1. It enables the passer-by to be seen on a very large surface and by many people. It should be placed in a public space, encouraging users to “take the stage” and give life to otherwise dormant facades.

Kopf Kino is a project by ON/OFF

Kopf Kino first started moving aroung berlin and then went to Istanbul but is now waiting to go to other cities.

Pine Cone vs. Feather: Burning Man Mural

I painted a mural this year at Burning Man in center camp. I got into the festival 2 days early to do it and it was pretty much a non-stop process. I pulled an all nighter on the Sunday before the gates opened to the general public so I could start festivaling myself. It is a bigger version of this sketch http://shouldercat.blogspot.com/2012/07/the-planters-ball.html from the Planter's Ball in June. I decided to chose a lighter, more positive, less critical theme than usual to try and be more in the Burning Man spirit and less of an asshole. I think it was a good choice. I guess this is the 3rd mural I've ever done (see 'mural' label at the bottom), and it's the first all just acrylic with paint brush and permanent marker. I went for a very illustrative not so street art style. That is all.

Capped Deer Reprise

These are somewhere out on the Likely Highway, near Beaver Lake Road. We saw one of them every day on our way back from work so that was fun. RIP Efterblivet. That was for you.

Nit Picking

Efterblivet's a bit dead these days so here's a little pick me up.
A new piece up in Vancouver right now on Main street at 7th.
This is something I think about a lot which weirdly comes from my evolutionary biology background. Social grooming. What happened?
Thanks to my little team and getaway car for helping.

Push the Button

This was my first piece in Vancouver and it got on Wooster Collective! Now Efter and Blivet have made it in the street art world! It was at Main and Union under the overpass, and it lasted two weeks which was a much higher life expectancy that I had anticipated.
